Building Code Compliance

Safeway Stair meets OSHA and UBC requirements. Some areas do not follow any building code in regard to spiral stairs. We recommend that you contact your local building inspector to find out what code applies to your area and how that code is interpreted.  You can be certain that our stairs meet your requirements.

All Safeway Stair oak spirals have the following features:

• minimum walking path 26 inches , 5 feet diameter or larger
• tread width 7.5 inches and 12 inches out from narrow end
• minimum headroom 6 ft 6 inches
• rise is less than  9.5 inches
• handrail height not less than 34 inches
• baluster spacing less than 4 inches
• balcony railings 36 inches
• minimum stair thread width is 26 inches
• handrail 1 7/8 x 1 1/16 inches, grasping comfort for children or seniors
